Carbon footprint is the total of greenhouse gas emissions that caused by one person from what he or she consumes of food, electricity, housing and transportation. Measuring a footprint doesn’t actually mean that one have to put his or her foot on a device to measure it, but its just some of direct questions that one have to answer in order to get the measurement of the carbon footprint. There are several websites that can measure the carbon footprint and I went to a site called Footprint, after answering all of the questions my foot print turned out that I live as if we have 2.23 planets! Which means that for each person like me needs 2.23 another earths to sustain the way of my living style.
After comparing my footprint with some of my class mates the lowest was 2.04 planets and the highest was 4.12 planets. The UAE’s carbon footprint is 4.5 the number of planets needed to sustain the earth’s population if every country had the same ecological footprint as the UAE according to the website (Time out Abu Dhabi).
There are various ways to reduce the amount of consumption of the earth’s sources or reduce the harm one person can cause like using more clean ways of transportation by walking or using a bike to go for a small errands to the market instead of the car. Also in the house one can use energy saving features lights or Choose energy efficient appliances. For food you can at least plant a garden of your own or choose food with less packaging to reduce waste and for housing use biodegradable, non-toxic cleaning products. Everyone in the world are trying their best to reduce the carbon emissions anyway possible and the UAE too is participating in this cause so should we as UAE citizens (Reduce Your Footprint).
